I Need a Locksmith: What to do and Who to Contact! – IKS Locksmiths

If you Google “locksmith in my area” or “locksmith near me” you will find that a mixed bunch of results will appear. Make sure that you choose a genuine, local and trustworthy locksmith. It can be difficult to tell who is so this is an insight into the offering of UK Locksmiths.

Google Advertisements

Of course you will see a number of Google advertisements at the top. These are paid for adverts where the company pay Google money every time a customer clicks on the advert. Speaking from my own experience of starting out as a locksmith these adverts cost the company a lot of money. In order to fund such a means of advertising the company would most definitely need to find ways of recouping the high costs of advertising through each job that is secured.

In my experience these locksmiths are generally;

  • Not genuine local locksmiths.
  • Operate through call centres.
  • Quote unrealistic arrival times to secure work.
  • Quote low prices to secure work and then find reasons to increase the price at the job.

They are usually chains of national locksmith companies spending large amounts on advertising, a budget which needs to be recouped at each job. This is not the case for all locksmiths using Google adverts but it is definitely something to be aware of.

Rogue Locksmiths

Because the locksmiths industry is unregulated there are locksmiths operating with unethical standards. It is important to be aware that you can’t just trust any locksmith as there are no laws to control what goes on within the industry. Find out about what the Master Locksmith Association is doing to stop it here.

Be wary of locksmiths quoting seemingly low prices because if they sound too good to be true they probably are. I often hear customers say I’m locked out and I’ve been quoted £40 by a locksmith. For me this sends alarm bells ringing as it is a common tactic of less honest locksmiths to quote low and then bump the price up at the job.
